Visit Us

We are always delighted to welcome visitors to our Sunday worship. But what should you expect?

First, if you are driving, be prepared to find a parking spot either on Main Street or along Clinton Street which forms a corner off Main Street by the church. We do not use the Presbyterian Church parking lot on Sundays, though we have permission to use it during the week. There is also a parking lot off Main Street by the Penn Yan Library.

Enter the church by the front door on Main Street; the side door is locked on Sunday mornings. You will be greeted by the ushers of the day or by parishioners who may be gathered to catch up with each other before the service begins. We are a casual and friendly group dressed, probably, in our “best casual”—gone are the days of hats and gloves although a stray hat may be worn from time to time.

One of the ushers will offer you a bulletin that contains the entire service, including hymns, or you may download the material on your electronic device. If you arrive well before the start of the service, you will enjoy the gift of our exceptional organist who will be offering music to prepare us for worship.

Our service is created from several contemporary models using prayers appropriate to the liturgical calendar and the seasons of the year. Hymns are chosen from different hymnals including Lift Every Voice and Sing, Voices Found, Wonder Love and Praise, My Heart Sings Out, Evangelical Lutheran Worship, as well as others.

Our service is “informally formal”—respectful but not stiff. We are a parish composed of people who know and like each other and who are delighted to welcome visitors. Some past visitors have become friends; some have become part of the family. We look forward to welcoming you—for one day or for many days.
