Leadership
Clergy & Staff
Our rector (an Episcopal word for ‘pastor’) serves as our spiritual leader, conducting worship services, administering sacraments (such as Holy Communion and Baptism), providing pastoral care and counseling to parishioners, teaching and preaching, fostering community within our congregation and the local area, and participating in the governance and life of our congregation. As a priest in The Episcopal Church, our rector also works with our bishop and other priests, serving on diocesan committees and the councils of the Church, but extends that ministry and mission into our Penn Yan community, collaborating with local clergy from other denominations.
Our rector also collaborates with our staff and Vestry, who help facilitate and support the ministries of the parish and its members. The staff members supply music for worship services, oversee financial operations, and exercise care and upkeep of our campus, while the Vestry members support and increase our ministry in areas of service, worship evangelism, education, pastoral care, parish life, and stewardship.
The Vestry
In an Episcopal church, the vestry serves as a group of elected lay members responsible for assisting the parish priest in the governance and administration of the congregation. They typically oversee financial matters, make decisions on property management, and collaborate on important church policies and initiatives. The vestry acts as a vital link between the clergy and the congregation, working together to support the church’s mission, ensure smooth operation, and foster a sense of community within the parish.
