Funerals

The Book of Common Prayer offers several liturgies that deal with death. Perhaps least know in the Litany at the time of Death. When family and friends are able to join in saying this litany, it draws those present into a common action of prayer and intercession for the dying. The Eucharist is a normative part of the Funeral Service. From the earliest days of the Church, the Eucharist was celebrated at such moments. In the bread and wine we see both the redemption that Christ accomplishes on the cross, which provides the way to new life. Depending on the wishes of the family, the service may take the form of a simple memorial. At the time that the remains are committed to their final resting place, a brief service called The Committal is said.

Whatever arrangements required for the comfort of the family and the desires of the departed, the Rector will work to provide services that bring healing and wholeness.

Members wishing to hold their reception at St. Mark's are requested to make a donation to the church for the use of the hall.

Non-members wishing to hold a reception at St. Mark's shall pay a fee of $100.00. Pastoral considerations may deem this fee to be negotiable.

It is preferable that the family and/or friends of the deceased meet with the Rector to plan the service.
The Rector is usually available to offer services at the interment, as well as for the funeral itself, given proper notice.
The Rector performs ceremonies congruent with the liturgical resources of the Episcopal Church. The Rector with the Bishop's permission, may invite guest clergy to use other rites, and/or co-offiate with the Rector.

Use Agreement:

All parties renting space must sign and comply with the Diocesan Building Use Agreement and Alcohol Use Addendum.

Large Clean-ups

Any event that requires more than an hour and-a-half cleanup time will be billed an additional $20/hour.
